SHORT ANSWER

Yes, in many tourist-facing businesses. But do not travel Sri Lanka card-only โ€” keep cash for smaller payments and transport.

WHERE CARDS WORK

Hotels, restaurants and larger shops

Sri Lanka Tourism says most hotels, restaurants and shopping centres accept credit cards. Card acceptance is strongest in cities and established tourist businesses.

WHERE CASH HELPS

Small purchases and local transport

Street food, small guesthouses, market stalls, buses and some tuk-tuks are much easier with cash. A card backup is useful, but so is a small stack of lower-value rupee notes.

ATMS

International cards can be used at ATMs

Sri Lanka Tourism says it is easy to withdraw money at ATMs using international credit or debit cards. Your own bank and the ATM operator may still charge fees.
